Scottish oat scones

Jim and Angela made these for our Super Bowl weekend; unlike many a scone, these were soft and tasty.

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup dried currants

Mix dry ingredients together in a large bowl. Make a well in the center.

  • 1/2 egg, beaten
  • 1/4 cup butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons and 2 teaspoons milk

Beat egg until frothy. Stir in melted butter and milk.

Pour into the well in the dry ingredients and mix to form a soft dough. Pat into a 1/2-inch thick circle on a baking sheet. Score into wedges (but do not cut completely apart).

Bake 15min at 400°F, until slightly browned.
