Make that "Hell no!"

9 November 2011. The off-year elections are often yawners that generate little interest, enthusiasm, or importance. 2011 may be the exception that proves the rule (whatever that expressions means).

• Ohio: Anti-labor law repealed in a landslide vote
• Mississippi: Anti-abortion initiative that would have made a fertilized egg a person defeated handily
• Maine: same-day voter registration re-instated after having been eliminated by Repugnicans
• Iowa: Repugnicans failed to take over the state senate, preventing them from being able to pass retrograde measures like a ban on same-sex marriage, now legal in Iowa
• Arizona: Voters recalled Senate President Russell Pearce (R), author of Arizona's notorious "papers please" anti-immigration law
• Kentucky: Democratic Governor Steve Beshear easily won another term (remember this is the state that sent Mitch McConnell and Rand Paul to the Senate)
• Virginia: Repugnican attempt to take over control of the state senate — and hence the entire state government — is stalled and hinges on less than 100 votes, even though it was expected to happen in that conservative state
• Locally: City Councilman Karl Baker was ousted following revelations that he had posted photos of his private parts on a number of websites (it wasn't pretty), not to mention his use of an official city photograph on said sites, and an investigation revealed a pattern of financial shenanigans involving city finances

Let's hope this is the beginning of a really, really, really big backlash against the "power-to-the-1%" moves of the Repugnicans.
